AdSense Mistakes

I see many beginners creating AdSense sites who don’t have a clue as to what they are doing. I have listed here some of the biggest mistakes I see them making.

First and foremost, don’t get your AdSense account banned by breaking the rules! Once your account is banned, it is all but impossible to get back into the program. The number one reason for banning your account is if you click your own Adsense ads. Or if you have your friends click them (yes, Google can tell about those kinds of patterns).

Also, you must read and follow the rest of the guidelines too. You can’t use any techniques with your AdSense sites which violate the general Google Webmaster Guidelines; you MUST read and follow them!

Now for the general AdSense mistakes:

1. Don’t put your Adsense ads onto to your new pages right away. There is no reason to have them there at first since your site is getting little traffic anyway. More importantly, having the Adsense there right when the search engines first look at the page will cause the engines to perhaps take a closer look. You do not want them to have to decide if your new site is a “made for AdSense site” or not. Just have your content there when they first visit. Do not put AdSense or affiliate links on a new site.

2. Most beginners will stuff their pages full of as many AdSense ad groups and link units as Google will allow. This is counter productive. In this case, less is more. Having too many AdSense ads causes the page to look “spammy” to human visitors. This will speed up their back button clicking! Secondly, having too many Adsense ads will force Google to put more medium and even lower paying ads onto your page. This will lower your CPM. If you have 15 ads showing on a page, some of them will pay but a fraction of the higher ones. Therefore, the average click on an Adsense ad will be less profitable to you.

3. Most beginners do not understand the concept of “creating niche sites”. They create their Adsense pages about topics that are far too broad to ever stand a chance for ranking well in the search engines. Therefore, they get no traffic. No traffic means there are no visitors to click the Adsense ads!

4. Many beginners have the idea that if they create 20 or 30 AdSense sites, that is their best chance for success. If they can make just three or four dollars per day from each site, then their Adsense checks would be around $3000 per month. This is easier said than done. What a beginner needs to do is create one Adsense site and market it until IT is making at least three or four dollars per day. At that point it can be decided if creating more AdSense sites or building up that one site will be more productive. Usually, putting more work into an already producing site is the best way to spend one’s time.

5. Lastly, too many beginners simply give up before they give themselves a good chance with AdSense. Success is not going to happen in a few weeks or even months. Depending on the niche, it may take six months to really get traction with the Adsense site! Don’t give up too early!
